What Is The MBSR Course?


Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is the ‘gold standard’, evidence-based, 8-week training programme that teaches participants how to practice mindfulness and meditation to lower stress, anxiety, depression and / or physical pain, while promoting natural well-being, mental health and emotional resilience.

MBSR is also an ideal entry point for anyone simply wanting to incorporate the many benefits of mindfulness and meditation into their everyday life.

The course is delivered online over 8 x 2 hour weekly workshops, which comprise teacher-led sessions, group discussions and exercises, meditation practices and other approaches such as mindful movement and developing self-compassion.

Between workshops, participants are required to complete daily 'homework' practices, including meditation and informal mindfulness exercises, in order to attain the full benefit of the course. Recorded meditations, worksheets and other resources are provided to assist with this important aspect of the course.

The course also includes a half-day retreat which takes place towards the end of the 8 weeks. While this is optional, attendance is encouraged. The retreat experience is a fantastic way to incorporate everything learned on the course and highlights the advantages of practicing meditation for longer periods.

Learning in a small group setting provides a great opportunity to share experiences, have your questions answered and to develop yourself in a friendly, supportive environment.

Before enrolling on the course, it is important to consider if you will be able to commit to attending all of the weekly sessions, have access to a computer and a comfortable private space with good wifi connection, and be able to complete the daily home practices (up to 45mins, at least 5 out of 7 days per week).

Learning how to increase our awareness of the present moment, giving us the choice to respond rather than react.

Week 2

Perception & Creative Responding

Identifying habitual patterns of thought and behaviour. Developing freedom to choose our response to stress.

Week 3

The Pleasure & Power of Being Present

Enjoying the present in a non-judgemental way. Noticing the power inherent within this moment.

Week 4

The Shadow of Stress

Exploring how conditioning and perception shape our experience. Identifying unhelpful attachments and aversions.

Week 5

Finding Space For Responding

Why accepting and allowing our feelings and experiences to be as they are helps us to respond more wisely to our circumstances.

Week 6

Working With Difficult Situations

Understanding our own reactivity to challenge, and developing flexibility. Bringing interpersonal mindfulness to our relationships.

Week 7

Cultivating Kindness To Self & Others

Growing our capacity for self-care. Identifying activities that drain us and sustain us. Integrating mindfulness into daily life.

Week 8

A New Beginning

Keeping mindfulness alive. Exploring ways of sustaining our practice and keep it going beyond the course. Making it a practice for life.
